Translators and Grammar Checkers

DeepL

DeepL is preferred by the experts on r/German as it gives a better translation than Google translate and that's been my experience, especially for complicated sentences and colloquiums (umgangssprachliche).

The iPad and iPhone apps are good and the facility to talk in German get get not only what you said printed out but also a translation is a very useful learning tool.

If you install the DeepL app it has an option to record speech and translate. Just set up the languages you want and press the mic symbol to start and stop. I use it sometimes if I want a translation for a phrase when I'm out and about and can't be bothered typing or if I think of a phrase in English and want to check my German translation.

Google Translate

A useful tool as it can be installed in to web browsers for quick translations and I do use it a lot when reading German newspapers.  I've found it can get confused about who's talking to whom when accusative and dative pronouns are used after the main verb.

Duden Text Proofer

Not 100% reliable but does pick up most of the mistakes beginners and intermediates make.
